When attacking a distant enemy base, marching straight at your target telegraphs the attack and gives the enemy the whole march duration to prepare — reinforce, shield, or relocate.
The waypoint technique
- Identify the target. Pick the enemy base (or Dig Site, or other objective) you intend to attack.
- Locate a nearby resource tile. Find a Farm, Oil Field, or Steel Mine close to the target.
- March toward the resource tile first, not directly at the target. This looks like an ordinary gathering march rather than an incoming attack.
- Redirect once you’re close. When your march is near the resource tile, redirect it toward the actual target.
- Strike with minimal warning. The final leg from waypoint to target is short, so the enemy has much less time to react than they would against a direct march.
This works for Dig Sites and other objectives too, not just enemy bases — anywhere a target can see an incoming march coming from a long way off.
Timing is what makes it work
The whole point is controlling the enemy’s reaction window, not just the route. Watch your march closely and redirect at the right moment — arrive with as little warning as possible while keeping the final approach as short as you can manage.
Control the route. Control the timing. Control the engagement.
